    Now here’s some good news for all drivers in BC, 140 new traffic cameras will be in use starting today. The cams will be placed in high-risk intersections around the province. ICBC has spear headed this initiative, costing $23 million dollars. Some quick facts of the cams:

  3. Velo-City Global Comes to Vancouver in 2012

    Today our mayor, Gregor Robertson will make a major announcement as Vancouver is set to host Velo-City Global 2012. This is the first time since 1996 that theVelo-City Global Conference on cycling will be held outside of Europe. With all the new bike lanes (Hornby, Dunsmuir, Burrard and many more down the pipe) having this conference in Vancouver makes complete sense.  Furthermore, this is only the second time in the conferences history that it has been held outside of Europe. No doubt this is a major coup for Vancouver and like them or not expect more cycling related announcements shortly.

    The Vancity Buzz has always kept an eye on Commercial-Broadway station as a transit bottleneck. And this month we found more evidence to back up our suspicions. We uncovered a report named “Impact statement of ALRT along the east lane of Commercial Drive” that indicates Commercial-Broadway Station has had the potential to become the region’s transit bottleneck since 1983.

    If Mayor Robertson is known for one thing, it’s cycling and soon after he is long gone his legacy as Mayor of Vancouver may very well be the shift in Vancouver’s transportation priorities to cycling. First it was the Burrard Bridge bike lane, then the Dunsmuir bike lane and yesterday council unanimously approved the $3.2 million Hornby Street bike lane, much to the dismay of local businesses who are worried about the loss of parking.
