On Sunday, March 8th, heartrendingly tender melodies will fill the museum parlour when we welcome cellist Ben Goheen and pianist Bernard Duerksen to the Second Sunday Concert Series. Romancing the Cello features Chopin’s Sonata in G minor and Brahms’ Sonata in F major- two magnificent works from masters at the peak of their powers. Both composers’ late sonatas pay respect to their classical heritage while embracing quintessentially Romantic era melodies and passionate harmonic expression. This rarely heard Chopin masterpiece and Brahms’ life affirming opus demand the utmost depth and virtuosity from both performers.
