Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice: Jane Austen fans hold onto your bonnets as all the wit and romance of Austen’s novel come to life in this fast-paced and engaging new adaptation. In a society where manners and birth mean everything, can Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy look beyond pride and prejudice? High-spirited and heartfelt, Theatre at UBC’s production will delight Austen aficionados and win new fans for this story of improbable love.
Playwright Jon Jory was the Producing Director at Actors Theatre of Louisville where he directed over 125 plays and produced over 1,000 during his 32-year tenure. He conceived the internationally lauded Humana Festival of New American Plays and has been inducted in New York’s Theatre Hall of Fame. (Jory is widely rumoured to be the writer behind the playwriting pseudonym “Jane Martin.”) He currently teaches acting and directing at the University of Washington.
MFA Directing and BFA Acting alumna Lois Anderson: Recent directing credits include The Unplugging and The Graduate for Arts Club Theatre where she next returns to direct It’s Snowing on Saltspring. Anderson also has a busy acting career and was most recently seen at Bard on the Beach in their productions of Measure for Measure (Ms. Overdone) and Elizabeth Rex (Tardy).
Pride and Prejudice features performances by BFA acting students Morgan Churla, Nathan Cottell, Thomas Curtain, Catherine Fergusson, Sarah Harrison, Luke Johnson, Mat Kennedy, Kat McLaughlin, Daniel Meron, Nick Preston, Bethany Stanley, Naomi Vogt, Nicole Yukiko, Natasha Zacher. The creative team includes BFA Production & Design students Shelby Bushell (Set), Chengyan Boon (Lighting), Chanel McCartney (Costumes) and Scott Zechner (Sound), Renne Liu (Stage Management).
