China Arts and Entertainment Group presents the Canadian premiere of Opera Warriors: an epic tale of power, passion and the Peking Opera told through dance, on stage January 5 and 6 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre – part of the cultural exchange program, Image China. Performed by Huajin Dance Drama Ensemble of Shanxi Academy of Arts, the large-scale spectacle is brought to life by the award-winning creative team behind the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, and features 40 masterful dancers, elaborate sets, sumptuous costumes, and breathtaking choreography with an original orchestral score. Set in 20th century northern China, Opera Warriors follows the fates of three gifted Peking Opera performers who study under the same master. After completing their rigorous training, the three artists join a theatrical troupe and seem destined for success, but love and jealousy intervene.
