Recently Pat was told that, despite the stem cell transplant he received from his brother last December, and despite the year’s worth of chemo, his cancer has returned. His is a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia that is basically impervious to the arsenal of conventional medical tools we have at our disposal here in Canada.
Pat’s options in Canada have run out.
But, there is reason for real optimism. Doctors in the US are experimenting with a new approach to cure cancer in which the body’s own cells are reprogrammed to attack cancer cells. It’s the most promising treatment in a generation and will be the standard of care in a few years, but it’s currently only available in clinical trials in the US. This means it’s crazy expensive to participate – literally hundreds of thousands of dollars. Pat has been accepted into the trial in Seattle, and he’s scheduled to start in the coming month. It’s really incredible news, but we need your help to get him there.
