International Women’s Day Conference 2015
1133 West Hastings Street
International Women’s Day is a global celebration that honours women’s achievements in both developing and developed countries. The weekend of March 8 has become a time to recognize the advancements made by women, and to raise awareness on what can still be accomplished. The International Women’s Day Conference is our contribution to this day. It is an annual event that brings the SFU and Greater Vancouver communities together, engaging them in a day filled with inspiring keynote speakers and workshops. There is also an expo, which showcases amazing social businesses and organizations. Delegates will have the opportunity to network with likeminded peers and professionals.
The conference theme this year, following with the worldwide theme, is “Make It Happen.” We chose this theme with the understanding that every action you take leaves an impression. This year, our focus is on building the foundational skills needed to make an impact in your career and community, and to achieve success on your own terms. We believe that through understanding how to leverage their strengths, young leaders will be better equipped to pursue paths that they have a passion for.
1. Decoding Workplace Wardrobes: From a networking lunch to happy hour, today’s workplace isn’t just limited to the office. It can be challenging to strike a balance between traditional work-attire with your own personal style. This fun workshop explores what to wear in any situation, with a positive approach to body image.
2. Beyond Networking: How do you invite someone to an informational interview? What is an effective way to follow-up? How do you build a long-lasting relationship with a mentor? Both formal and informal connections are a vital way to grow your personal and professional network. Learn how to create and maintain meaningful relationships with peers and mentors alike.
3. Clear Leadership: Being self-aware is key to being an effective collaborator and leader. Learn about how your thoughts, observations, and feelings interact with one another to form perception. This workshop will introduce new concepts that will help you become more mindful of how you experience the world.
