This year marks the sixth anniversary of Go Topless Day and on Sunday August 25, people in cities around the world (including Vancouver) are invited to stand up for women’s right to go topless in public.

Unlike many other cities in North America, legally, in Vancouver women have the right go topless. The issue here has to do more with society’s inability to allow such a thing without others feeling some level of perversion or awkwardness.

Go Topless Day, is a 24-hour period where ladies are encouraged to show their breasts as a protest against hypocritical laws that allow guys to walk around shirtless while women must remain clothed.

Men you don’t have to feel left out, you can support the movement as well. Those men who support the mission are asked to cover their own man-boobs with pasties or bras.

Forty cities, including Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Detroit, Denver, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C., will be holding demonstrations. Last year there were 30 cities participating.
