Gay Kiss-In Protest at Russian Consulate
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
212-475 Howe Street
LGBTQ activists in Vancouver are organizing an international Gay Kiss-In Protest at the Russian Consulate on Friday, October 11 between 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This protest coincides with tomorrow’s National Coming Out Day and is in an effort to create awareness of Russia’s recently passed anti-gay laws which permits police to fine and jail those who express their homosexuality publicly and in the media.
The law has also been associated with a surge in harassment and violent gay beatings by police, bystanders and the general Russian public. There are also concerns with how LGBTQ athletes and visitors will be treated by their Russian hosts at next February’s Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. LGBTQ individuals are simply not safe in the Russian state.
