NEW LOCAL FUNDRAISER ARTBEAT VANCOUVER BRINGS TOGETHER ARTISTS, MUSICIANS AND PATRONS FOR A GOOD CAUSE ArtBeat Vancouver has now become the arts social event of the Summer season; a unique celebration of local art and music in an elegant Southlands setting. Founded in 2014, the first event raised $30,000 for the Canadian charity Little Footprints Big Steps and $15,000 for contributing artists. The funds from the 2015 event will go to support Kate Booth House and Esther’s Place, both of which provides crucial shelter and support for women escaping domestic violence.
The inspiration for ArtBeat came to its’ founder, 23 year old Scarlett Smith, when searching for ways to raise money for Little Footprints, founded by friend Morgan Wienberg. Smith quickly engaged the talents of friends in the local art, music, and non-profit communities and so the concept for ArtBeat was born.
Artbeat is a grassroots, community-building event connecting new and established artists with the public in their shared, heartfelt support for a truly worthy cause. Its youthful authors, with collaborative aid from Shannon Belkin, were able to connect with local art luminaries like Attilla Lukacs, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, and Lincoln Clarks who will be featured alongside rising stars such as XYZ.
New musical talent will also be showcased to insure that this is will be a fresh and magical evening of discovery. Not-to-be-missed performers; our own David Morin and Claire Mortifee as well as Toronto based Charlotte Cornfield, will provide an unforgettable score as the evening unfolds. The particular genius of this event is that artists and musicians gain exposure in the local arts scene while also raising money for a great cause. This sentiment is reflected in the event’s payment scheme, whereby 30% of every piece that is sold is given back to the artist who donated it.
Purveyors of fine BC wine and Craft IPA’s will be on hand to round out the distinctly local flavour of this beautiful evening. Last year’s Artbeat was an unrivalled, unequivocal success and this year is on track to surpass the premier.
“ArtBeat is about bringing the creative community together in order to create positive change. When we started asking artists, musicians, and local businesses to contribute, we were amazed at how many said ‘yes’. Vancouver has such a special, generous creative community that is dedicated to giving back, and that’s what ArtBeat is all about,” says Smith.
This year’s ArtBeat will take place on July 25, 2015 from 4pm-10pm at 7349 Blenheim Street. More information and tickets are available at www.artbeatvancouver.com.
