Classical saxophonist and composer Colin MacDonald presents original works and arrangements of contemporary favourites for saxophone.Coming through its popularity in jazz and rock music, the saxophone emerges in the 21st Century as one of the most popular contemporary voices in classical music. The program includes the minimalist classic New York Counterpoint by Steve Reich, arranged for soprano saxophone; Bang on a Can composer David Lang’s Press Release for baritone saxophone; Michael Gordon’s Low Quartet for 4 baritone saxophones; Dutch post-minimalist Jacob TV’s Billie for alto sax and soundtrack, setting the speech melodies of Billie Holiday; and Colin MacDonald’s minimalist Circular Etudes.
