Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be looking to take a step towards lifting the Voyageurs Cup with a victory over NASL side FC Edmonton on Wednesday night. The Voyageurs Cup, which has eluded the Whitecaps over the years, is awarded to the winning team of the Amway Canadian Championship (ACC) tournament.

After losing to the Canucks 3-1 in Monday night’s game, Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Duncan Keith was questioned by TEAM 1040 reporter Karen Thomson on his play (slash) against Daniel Sedin on the Canucks’ third goal. His comments were both sexist and plain dumb.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker’s challenge on San Jose’s Sam Cronin made headlines in the U.K. where Reo-Coker has spent the majority of his playing career. The challenge occurred in the final minutes of a match that finished in a 1-1 draw on Saturday, April 6 in San Jose against the Earthquakes.

This past Saturday the Vancouver Whitecaps were in Texas to take on FC Dallas looking to break their four game winless streak. From the opening kick-off the ‘Caps just did not look like they were ready to face the Dallas attack. Within the first minute of the game FC Dallas had a glorious chance to open the scoring when Blas Perez fired a shot from outside the box, but was steered wide of the goal by Whitecaps keeper Joe Cannon.

The B.C. Lions have signed veteran import offensive tackle Ben Archibald to a contract extension. 

The BMO Vancouver Marathon will hold one minute of silence at the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8km and Kids 1-Mile Fun Run race starts to pay tribute to those affected by the bombings at the Boston Marathon –  the victims, their families, participants, first responders and spectators.

The Vancouver Sun is reporting actor Sean Astin, renowned for his role as Samwise Gamgee in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy, will be running with 50,000 other participants in this Sunday’s Vancouver Sun Run.

Hockey, like any sport, has the power to conjure up nasty rivalries that inspire a special type of hatred amongst certain fans, or at the very least, a sense of bitter resentment. For Vancouverites, the simple mentioning of the Boston Bruins since 2011 brings back memories that hit painfully deep for some.

TSN’s Insider Trading team has announced the Vancouver Canucks will host the Ottawa Senators in an “outdoor” game at BC Place on March 2, 2014. It is said to be part of a six-city stadium series next season.
