The pair of Canucks can push each other to new levels akin to many previous Cup-winning goalie tandems. Many hockey fans would agree that goalies can oftentimes win championships.

  3. Trade Deadline Watch

    Once upon a time, the NHL trade deadline was worth hosting day-long coverage of trans-action around the league. You may have woken up this morning early at 7 a.m. like I did to see on TSN, James Duthie crying for some action, and Jay Onrait talking to his plant (he named it finally, by the way: Sergei Bobovtree!). Sportsnet was even worse, with Mike Keenan and Pat Quinn (a match made in heaven) sharing their stories of once being relevant in the hockey world.

  4. Canucks land Roy, re-sign Higgins, and lose out on Clowe in pre-deadline scramble

    Vancouver GM Mike Gillis finally got his man down the middle in a trade with the Dallas Stars.

    The Canucks have given up a second-round pick in 2013 in addition to 23-year old defense prospect Kevin Connauton for reliable centre Derek Roy. (If you want to watch Assistant GM Laurence Gilman certify the deal, apparently they get taped!)

    For the third time, a bill regarding the creation of a non-statutory holiday for “National Hockey Day” has been proposed. The previous two efforts were unsuccessful, but New Democrat MP Linda Duncan, who represents an Edmonton riding, has once again tabled this bill and hopes that the third time’s a charm.
