In case you were caught up with all the action of the NHL trade deadline, or lack there of, a Vancouver sports team other than the Canucks was active in trading away one of their all-star players. On Tuesday, the B.C. Lions traded away all-star import defensive tackle Khalif Mitchell to the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for import defensive end Adrian Awasom and the rights to a player on Toronto’s negotiation list.

Early last year, the provincial government nixed a $35-million deal with Telus, an agreement that would have renamed the recently renovated BC Place Stadium to “Telus Park” for the next 20 years. Although it was publicly known that the telecommunications giant was upset with the province’s abrupt change of heart, negotiations are now back on the table ten months after the initial standoff.

Like many of my fellow Vancouverites, this current NHL lockout has driven up my interest in other professional sports. The fact that the BC Lions are dominating the CFL is nice to see. Plus, our hometown Vancouver Whitecaps FC are playoff bound. When it comes to sports outside of our fair city, nothing beats the NFL. Well now, the NFL is coming to Vancouver. Sort of.
