  2. Huge blow to arts and culture: The Centre for the Performing Arts sold to evangelical church

    The arts and cultural community is facing a very significant blow with the sale of The Centre for the Performing Arts to Westside Church. The 1,800-seat theatre located across the street from Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch has been the home of many events, concerts, musicals, and festivals. All bookings August onwards have been canceled with the evangelical church taking ownership, sending event organizers scrambling to find a new venue. This also includes the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), which had planned on screening three films a day at the theatre throughout its 16-day run this fall.

    From May 4th to June 8th, the Red Bull Tour Bus will make its way from coast-to-coast, transforming into a self-contained stage to bring some of Canada’s most celebrated bands to their hometowns for free, outdoor shows. Kicking off the Red Bull Tour Bus Hometown Tour, The New Pornographers will hit the stage for the first LIVE concert on Saturday, May 4th, located at the parking lot at Georgia Street and Cambie Street at 3:00 p.m. PST.

  7. VIBF review: production night from the Rio Theatre

    The Rio Theatre was packed last night, Thursday May 2, 2013.  Wall to wall with adoring fans and artists. Not a seat was left in the house and the performers delivered solidly entertaining performances. The Wet Spots (show hosts) were a hilarious  duo, with original song numbers – especially the one about hiding your dildo’s while in Texas! We loved their passion for burlesque!

  9. Super8 & Tab Show Review

    When Finnish trance superstars Super8 & Tab performed at the recently renovated Celebrities Nightclub for Stereotype Fridays on April 26, it was surely one of the highlights of the year. The duo threw down an energetic and uplifting set in front of a very enthusiastic crowd. I had seen them play a great show at Celebrities back in 2011 with Sander van Doorn, but on this night, they made a real impression on me as some of the absolute best in the trance game.
