Nichelle Nichols, the First Lady of Star Trek, is most famous for her role as communications officer Lieutenant Uhura aboard the USS Enterprise on the popular television series and succeeding motion picture franchise, where she would eventually be promoted within Starfleet to the rank of commander.

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores. This year Free Comic Book Day lands on May 4, 2013. *Check with your local comic book shop for their participation and rules.

Fan Expo Vancouver returns April 20-21, 2013 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Coming off an amazing inaugural year with nearly 17,000 attendees, Comicon Hollywood North is taking the celebration of pop culture to a new level in 2013. Last year, the fan convention sold out on its first day. To accommodate even more fans, special guests and programming, Fan Expo will now move to the East side of the Convention Centre.

Vancouver, the legend himself Stan Lee will be coming to Vancouver for the annual Fan Expo, the largest expo of its kind in the city. If that isn’t enough, the actor who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars will also be in Vancouver for Fan Expo 2013.

It’s pretty rare that I fall in love with a comic after just the first 6 issues, however Brian K. Vaughan’s Saga has me in a bit of a tizzy. The story is a mix of an epic Star Wars ballad with a heavy dash of Game of Thrones backstabbing, all of which is tied together by some Romeo and Juliet style love and intrigue. What more could you want?

One of Canada’s largest collections of sport and comic memorabilia will be headed to the auction block at Able Auctions on December 1-2. The auction will offer a huge variety of rare collector items. Most items in the $2.5 million collection are factory sealed and in mint condition.

It’s fairly difficult to find a good comic book store, let alone in a city as large and fragmented as Vancouver. If you were anything like me as a kid, saturday morning cartoons were by far the best part of the week. And without a doubt, of all the cartoons I gunked my mind up with, X-Men was my favourite. Pick up where your childhood left off with Astonishing X-Men; not only is it (as the name suggests) astonishing, but it is also written by Joss Whedon! You might remember him as director of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the recent Hollywood blockbuster “The Avengers“.
