With the B.C. Liberals re-elected, Metro Vancouver residents are expected to vote in a referendum on a new funding mechanism for TransLink in the November 2014 municipal elections.

TransLink is often scolded in the media and at the water cooler for mismanaging public funds, out of control spending and constantly gouging taxpayers and drivers. However, TransLink is giving you a good bang for your buck, according to infographics produced by two local Vancouver bloggers.

Ideas such as distance-based road pricing, bridge tolls and a sales tax have been suggested to fund TransLink to expand service, extend the Millennium Line SkyTrain to UBC, and build rapid transit in Surrey.

What if all the major subway lines in the North America were connected? This is what the map would look like.

TransLink will be adjusting the schedules of their transit services beginning on Monday, April 15 to reflect seasonal demand changes and maximize efficiency. These changes are made four times a year in the months of April, June, September and December.

(Full Disclosure: I wanted to test drive the Jetta Turbo Hybrid so badly, that I had my friend take me all the way out to a Richmond industrial park to beg and plead with the folks at VW Canada to let me take one out for a week long spin. Thankfully, they said “Sure! Why not?”)
