The other day, my friends at Volkswagen Canada, let me know about a cool art project they’ve set up here in Vancity to celebrate the launch of their all new 2012 Jetta GLI. In a nutshell, VW Canada has hidden limited edition, framed, light paintings all over town and they want you, dear readers to steal them.

In recent years Vancouver has taken steps to brighten up it’s downtown core with some lighting effects on select buildings. Well it seems one building in particular, West Pender Place in Coal Harbour, has the neighbours up in arms as the supposed non intrusive LED displays have caused quite the stir. Perhaps the suburbs are where people should look to live if they want to avoid the noise and light pollution of downtown. Or maybe send them to Hong Kong and show them how lighting can accentuate the city’s buildings and to the urban fabric.

It looks as though the mystery at the Vancouver Art Gallery has finally been solved. What we have here folks is a giant 20 foot cereal box. The question though still remains, why? Is it some sort of new public art? A giant billboard for a new kind of cereal. If you’re interested the official unveiling will be tomorrow at 11 am at the Vancouver Art Gallery. We’ll be there!
