An officer with the Vancouver Police Department is recovering after he was stabbed with a butcher-type knife over the weekend.
At 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, an officer responded to a call about an emotionally distraught woman at an apartment on West 2nd Avenue. While talking to her in the hallway, she suddenly brandished the knife and allegedly swung at the officer’s chest. He raised his hand in defence and the knife slashed his hand.
The woman then barricaded herself in her apartment while the officer was taken to hospital. Other officers arrived to negotiate with the woman, but were unsuccessful, forcing them to break down the door and arrest her.
The injured officer was released from hospital and is recovering at home.
