We typically associate police with bad news stories – but a duo of Vancouver officers were involved in an altogether more uplifting incident on Thursday morning.

At around 6:30 a.m., two officers were flagged down by a man whose wife was in labour. Officers advised dispatchers to call ahead to the hospital and then escorted them there, where they delivered a healthy baby girl named Victoria.

Constable Brian Montague from VPD says he can’t say more as they want to protect the privacy of the couple, but the department wanted to spread the word about the happy news.

“I think it was a bit of a surprise to [the officers] when they got flagged down,” he tells Vancity Buzz. “Obviously police work is full of a lot of negative encounters, a lot of situations that are extremely sad, extremely unfortunate, and it’s always nice to be involved in something that’s a lot happier and positive.”

He adds both mom and baby Victoria are healthy.
