In 2015, Vancouver-based electro-pop duo Golden Ears won a $20,000 grant from STORYHIVE (TELUS’ community-driven funding program geared towards supporting local talent) to put towards making a music video. This week, the group, comprised of Jason Craig and Gabriel Perello, released their anticipated video for “Can’t Last.”

The video, which features the work of Thoughtbox Visuals directors Evan Bourque and Dwight Jantzi, was filmed in Iceland and portrays an astronaut’s journey of hardship and triumph, with sweeping shots of rugged landscape alongside flashbacks of a turbulent blast-off into the starry skies. The sometimes-surreal visuals are a breathtaking accompaniment to epic synths, symphonic arrangements, and Craig’s rich vocals.

Golden Ears, who last month were chosen as a regional finalist for CBC’s Searchlight songwriting competition, also received $10,000 to create a documentary about their band that will be distributed through TELUS Optik TV on Demand at a later date.
