A new breakfast delivery service has recently wheeled into town. The Cycling Croissant, owned and operated by two young entrepreneurs Samir El Wali and Cécile Desbonnets, offers French-inspired brekkie options.
The concept is pretty straightforward: people can order an array of freshly baked pastries online (think almond croissants, apple turnovers, and raisin danishes) and The Cycling Croissant team will deliver them by bike–that is if your house is within the designated zone.
El Wali and Desbonnets, both recent graduates from HEC Montreal, were prompted to launch The Cycling Croissant when they discovered that there were only a handful of breakfast delivery options in Vancouver.
“Our concept started with a simple idea: who doesn’t like to be served breakfast in bed? We also noticed that there were just a few breakfast delivery services in Vancouver focusing on American breakfast items,” says El Wali.
Hailing from France and Morocco, the pair grew up eating viennoiseries for breakfast and wanted to share these morning delights with Vancouverites, and thus, The Cycling Croissant was born.
While El Wali and Desbonnets don’t currently possess the “savoir-faire” to bake the pastries themselves, the duo have partnered up with a local Vancouver-based bakery that bakes an assortment of pastries fresh every morning.
Having launched in mid-May, The Cycling Croissant prepares their delivery itinerary in advance in order to deliver on time with super fresh products. While same day delivery is not an option at the moment, next day delivery is, if made before 5 p.m. Currently delivery is free and delivery times are set between 7 a.m. and noon.
For now, the niche bike delivery company only offers pastries but does have plans to expand their product line. Baguettes, macarons, muffins, local organic jams and butter may feature on the menu down the road, hints El Wali. “We are also looking to offer our customers fresh local organic juices in near the future,” adds El Wali.
