New low to moderate income seniors housing, and a new seniors cultural space in Chinatown

The City of Vancouver is hosting an open house on May 16 regarding Beedie Living’s mixed-use proposal slated for 105 Keefer Street.

The event will give attendees the opportunity to review revised design concepts and share their feedback with the project team and city staff.

The project has undergone several design reviews over the last year. This newest design is based on feedback from the community, the City of Vancouver’s Urban Design Panel, and staff.

The property is currently a parking lot on the northeast corner of Keefer Street and Columbia Street. Beedie Living would like to rezone the area for an additional 30 feet of height, otherwise three stories above the outright 90 feet. Doing so will allow for the inclusion of seniors housing and cultural space. 

The result will be a 13-storey mixed-use building that includes 25 low to moderate income seniors housing units. There will also be a Seniors Cultural Centre in partnership with the Chinatown Seniors Cultural & Recreational Coalition. The Seniors Cultural Centre will be open to the public.

The proposal also includes 119 market units, new small scale retail spaces, as well as an improved streetscape and public realm for pedestrians. The building has been set back an additional 10 feet to provide additional space for gathering and spending time in the Chinatown Memorial Square.

Beedie Development Group is a family-owned and operated company that has been building housing in the Metro Vancouver region since 1946. Beedie Living is the residential arm of Beedie Development Group, and this is their first project in Chinatown.
