It crawls… It creeps… It eats you alive! And now The Blob is taking over Vancouver Aquarium thanks to Nerd Nite Vancouver and The Cinematheque.

Nerd Nite will be invading the aquarium for three lectures on Tuesday, May 24, after a special screening of the classic science fiction horror film at the theatre on Sunday, May 22.

The talks are expected to address not only the terrifying red blob of the 1950s movie and its 1980s remake, but also the mysterious blob of warm water floating off our coast.

“Nerd Nite at the Aquarium is a special night, because we get to geek out on marine biology in a special venue while drinking beer,” said Nerd Nite co-boss Michael Unger in a release.

Speakers will be:

  • Dr. Philippe Tortell, a biological/chemical oceanographer
  • Dr. Richard Dewey, who holds a B.Sc. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Oceanography
  • Michael van den Bos, a film scholar, film history teacher and critic

Nerd Nite was founded in Boston in 2003, but has since spread to 80 cities around the world. This is the third year of ‘nerdery’ in Vancouver.
