American actor Dylan O’Brien has yet to recover from his injuries on the B.C. film set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure. This has forced 20th Century Fox to shut down the film’s production indefinitely, which was slated to restart in Vancouver on May 9.

According to Deadline, the studio is providing O’Brien with more time to recover from his injuries, which are reportedly largely to his face. New details indicate there was an equipment malfunction resulting in the 24-year-old actor falling onto his face. As a result, he broke several of his facial bones, and surgical treatment was undertaken to repair the damage.

Production has been suspended since the accident and it is unclear when it will resume; all cast and crew with the production were on hold since the accident on March 17, but they have now been sent home.

The third instalment to the Maze Runner cinematic series is scheduled for a release on February 17, 2017. At this time, the studio has not announced a new release date, even though filming is now far behind schedule. The accident occurred during the first week of filming.

Shortly after the accident, film director Wes Ball tweeted a letter that expressed his “anger and sadness and guilt” for what occurred:

I’ve been overwhelmed with feelings of anger and sadness and guilt. But ultimately I find myself left with just a deep love and respect for Dylan. I’m sorry for the grief this accident has caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew. It’s scary seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately, Dylan is going to be just fine. After a few weeks of rest and recovery he will be back up and running to finish our adventure together. All the best.

O’Brien also has a leading role in MTV’s Teen Wolf television series. There is no word yet on how filming for the series’ sixth season might be affected.
