If there is ever going to be an end to the great Vancouver-Boston war of 2011, it appears Ben Hutton will be the peacemaker.
Hutton, along with his Canucks teammate Chris Tanev, are currently over in Russia competing for Canada at the World Hockey Championships. Also on that team: Brad Marchand, from the Boston Bruins.
To make things interesting (I assume), Team Canada brass decided to make Hutton and Marchand roommates. Here’s how Hutton described the experience so far on his blog on Canucks.com:
Of all of my teammates, I’ve gotten to know my roommate, Brad Marchand, the most. He’s a completely different guy off the ice. When I first got roomed up with him, I thought I was in for a long three weeks here, but it’s been great getting to know him.
We’re pretty much doing everything together, going to dinner or exploring the city or hitting the spa at the hotel, we’re always hanging out. Good guy, he’s not a pest off the ice. He’s a solid ping-pong player too, so you know.
Oh shush, don’t worry, I’ll still be hard on him when we face Boston!
He LIKES him! Marchand!?
And before we get too far: “Oh shush”? That’s not going to calm the masses, Ben.
I didn’t think Hutton could ever do something unpopular, but this would be it. Public praise of Brad Marchand on the Canucks official website!
I mean, I knew Hutton was a happy-go-lucky guy, but I assumed he’d at least be able to hate Brad Marchand. Guess he can look at the bright side of life no matter what the situation.
Team Canada, the defending champions at this tournament, have been steamrolling through the competition overseas. They’re 6-0 so far, with one game left (Tuesday, 10:15 a.m. against Finland) in the round robin.
