Every time we try to catch up on the news, negative stories constantly seem to dominate the headlines. There’s a reason why we say some things “restore our faith in humanity” – it’s because we rarely get exposed to the wealth of good things happening around us everyday.

That’s why every week, we bring you a roundup of some of the biggest news stories about good things that happened around the world to help brighten your day.

Here are nine positive things that happened last week that you should know about (in no particular order):

1. New anti-drinking and driving campaign sends powerful message

A new anti-drunk driving campaign is sending an extremely powerful message. “Reflection From the Inside” was launched by the organization We Save Lives. Watch the video above to see patrons using the washroom at a Los Angeles bar interact with the reflection of Kris Caudilla, a prisoner at a Florida prison serving time for killing a man while drinking and driving. It is a shocking, and powerful campaign that will hopefully save lives.

2. Edmonton restaurant owner offers free meals to those in need

An Alberta restaurant is making headlines for offering free meals to anyone in need. If you are feeling hungry and are in the Edmonton area, head down to Indian Fusion where you can grab a hot plate anytime. Two years ago the restaurant’s owner, Parkash Chhibber, noticed people searching for food in a nearby dumpster. That inspired him to give away free meals and he has extended the offer to all patrons. “I decided with my family, why not put up a sign in case anybody is passing by hungry, jobless or needy in any way? We are fortunate to have a lot of food inside,” Chhibber told Global News.

3. Faithful dog sits outside dead owner’s home for five years

A faithful dog in Romania is giving a new meaning to man’s best friend. The dog’s owner died five years ago, but the pup has been sitting outside his master’s home loyally waiting for him to return. Residents in Malu Mare, Romania, say the dog has been protecting his owner’s empty property every day since he passed away. Local villagers give the dog food and check up on him daily.

I thought it would be the right thing to do,” Trey told ABC 6.

At first, Goodman thought it was a homeless person but the girl woke up and he was shocked.“She came up out of her sweater and peeked her head out and I saw her hair and I said, ‘Oh my god, that’s a little girl,'” he told WHEC Rochester.

It turns out that the girl had run away from home. Goodman was concerned and brought her inside and fed her. He then phoned a friend and told him about the girl.
