Starbucks is hosting a hiring fair for youth who face systemic barriers – or “opportunity youth,” as they call them – on Thursday in Vancouver.

The fair is in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation and will be held at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle. Starbucks is holding the fair as part of their commitment to have 10% of all Vancouver hires be opportunity youth.

“The hiring event supports motivated young people who have a strong desire to work, but face barriers to employment and require even more support in finding pathways to opportunity,” says Madeline Löwenborg-Frick, Public Affairs for Starbucks Canada in a statement. “Working in partnership with the Province’s WorkBC Employment Services Centres, Starbucks will dedicate in excess of 330 jobs for Opportunity Youth in Vancouver over the next three years.”

Opportunity youth (under the age of 24) who attend the event can expect to meet with Starbucks partners, practice making a coffee, meet with social agencies to learn of other supports, conduct mock interviews, and possibly get hired on the spot.
