Lacing up with Vancouver’s Don’t Be Stock

Laces / Don't Be Stock

When we think of our shoes, we tend to overlook one of the most important aspects: the laces.

Vancouver-based company, Don’t Be Stock (DBS) is changing the way we approach the average shoelace. Since the dawn of time, shoelaces have remained as dirty cotton and fragile strings that come stock with an otherwise evolved sneaker.

But that’s all about to change.

Carlos Plaschinski is the CEO of DBS. His start-up was conceptualized after realizing he couldn’t customize and curate his shoe collection the way he likes to do with his lifestyle.

Plaschinski believes our ordinary shoelaces need an overdue makeover. The process starts with the elimination of the regular synthetic cotton shoelaces that come with your new kicks and replacing them with custom, microfiber, durable laces that match with and enhance any shoe, outfit, or mood.

DBS’ mission is to provide a new level of style, quality, and customization to shoes via their laces. What makes DBS different is that each set of laces is created with a microfiber blend of sea-island fibre bundles that are superfine. They also consist of a high grade polyurethane resin as opposed to real (and expensive) animal leather. The DBS microfiber composite is the highest grade synthetic leather in the world, meaning you can rock your new laces for even longer than the sneakers themselves.

Choose from 14 sleek colours, all optimally crafted for your lifestyle. Each pair of laces is water-resistant, non-fading, odourless, resistant to scratches and tears, and finished with silver or gold metal casings. DBS believes you need to look and feel your tightest, which is why each pair of laces also includes a five year warranty.

Unfortunately, making the world’s finest custom laces and a creating a strong brand requires a lot of coin in our current market. In order to get this product to the masses, DBS needs help. Fortunately, Carlos has been lucky enough to work with a team of leatherworkers and designers to produce prototypes of the first DBS laces that we see today, but knows these laces will change the way we compliment our shoes and our lifestyle forever.

In order to get the ball rolling with the first shipments of DBS shoelaces, Carlos is asking for the support of his city of Vancouver to help him achieve his goal on Kickstarter. Kickstarter is the world’s largest funding platform for creative products, and has opened the floodgates for many products just like those of DBS to succeed. With your pledge, Carlos has included many rewards including $10 off a set of DBS microfiber leather laces with a pledge of $25 and more.

Lace up with Don’t Be Stock to help our local entrepreneur succeed in giving our kicks a new and refreshing look. Also make sure to keep tabs on these sleek laces via Facebook and Instagram.
