Vancouver comedy fixture Dino Archie brings together some of the best comedians in North America for the Vancity Comedy Extravaganza Saturday, April 30.

Archie has had a big year, from a first place win at the 2015 Seattle International Comedy Competition, to his first TV spot on Adam DeVine’s House Party, to filming a pilot with the world-renowned Pajama Men. After over ten years on the scene, Archie says it couldn’t come at a better time.

“It feels like it makes more sense. I’m glad that some opportunities didn’t happen sooner, because I feel like I know what I’m doing a little bit more now,” Archie told Vancity Buzz. “I’m a little bit more – not a lot more, but I’m a little bit more confident in where I’m coming from, and what I have to say. I feel more ready.”

Originally from Fresno, California, Archie is back in his home-away-from-home of Vancouver, and he’s bringing some of his favourite stand-ups with him for the Vancity Comedy Extravaganza.

“I always wanted to bring something really cool to the city, because the city has always embraced me in a way, and let me do my own thing,” he says. “I wanted to feature some talent here in front of a big crowd; an eclectic crowd that normally wouldn’t be at a comedy show.”

Along with Archie, Vancouver’s Graham Clark will perform, as will Dave Merheje from Toronto, Mike Blaustein from New York, with Vancouver’s Ivan Decker doing a guest spot.

“That kind of makes it an extravaganza. Everybody on their own is a headliner,” says Archie. “You get 20 minutes of their best work.”

Archie says the show, more than anything, is proof that if you want world class talent in Vancouver you don’t have to go much further than your own back yard.

“[People say] there’s nothing to do here, there’s no culture, if you have a lot of complaints, but there’s a lot of talent and amazing performers here,” he says. “I put them all together in front of a huge crowd.”

“It’s a celebration,” he says. “Putting the best and funniest guys in the city in front of a big crowd and letting them do their thing.”
