Step up your sushi game with a new high end sushi class, Sushi and the City, which launches on May 6, 2016. The classes will be held twice a day on Saturday and Sunday evenings at a secret location and will include an exclusive hands-on two and a half hour sushi and sashimi workshop using the latest techniques in Japanese gastronomy.

This culinary experience has been created by Jhordan Stevenson, a local entrepreneur with a passion for all things culinary, and Charlie Lee, a master sushi chef trained by two Michelin star sushi chef, Matsumoto Mizuho (who was awarded his Michelin stars while working at Kyubey in Tokyo, Japan). Lee also currently holds the head chef title at Tsuki Sushi Bar in Gastown.

With a limited class size of about eight to 10 students, Stevenson and Lee hope to provide their guests with a more personalized, one-on-one learning experience.

When asked how Sushi and the City will be different from other sushi making courses in Vancouver, Stevenson replied, “unlike other sushi classes, we want to deliver a higher end experience, not only in regards to the venue, but also the quality of our seafood, ingredients, and of course our Michelin-trained instructor Charlie Lee. Charlie will show our guests how to make signature dishes made popular by famous sushi restaurants and chefs from around the world.”

Another unique element that Sushi and the City brings to the table is the fact that the venue is not revealed until after tickets have been reserved online. Stevenson and Lee have chosen to follow the same model that Eatwith.com (an online global community that lets users enjoy authentic and intimate dining experiences in people’s homes) is using, which essentially allows chefs to host private culinary-related events at a variety of locations.

UPDATE: Dates have been extended from May 7 to June 26.
