This collaborative project will be the first of many for KOKKO as the boutique plans to present more pop-up shops throughout the rest of the year. Their overall concept for the shops being to present a curated gallery of artwork in collaboration with different luxury apparel brands to offer a more immersive shopping experience for their customers.

Below we caught up with Mason Wu, one of the co-founders of KOKKO, to talk about the history of the boutique and the inspiration behind their latest collaboration pop-up shop with mastermind JAPAN.

Please introduce yourself

Hey I’m Mason Wu, the co-founder and head of marketing and branding at KOKKO.

What is KOKKO’s mission as a boutique?

Our mission is to build a platform through fashion in two ways. The first being to bring the very latest trends and brands into one place that connects fashion with art and lifestyle. Secondly, we want to bring fun and interesting things to Vancouver and connect with our clients in new and memorable ways.

How long has KOKKO been open and what makes the store different from other luxury boutiques?

Our original boutique opened six years ago in Richmond’s Aberdeen Mall and was created as a multi-brand platform for men, women, and children. The brands that we carry range from high-end street fashion to luxury brands like Balmain and Valentino. We also carry cutting edge designers with artistic flare, like Tsumori Chisato from Japan, and have curated what we call dark fashion from brands such as Rick Owens and BBS11.

What qualities of mastermind JAPAN first attracted you to carry the brand?

mastermind JAPAN uses the best fabric, employs the best tailoring techniques, and showcases the best in luxury style. The brand also just recently made its “comeback” to the fashion stage after a three year hiatus; we wanted to use the pop-up shop to honour both the brand and the designer behind the beautiful pieces we love. The space is not just about clothing, but a concept that focuses on interactive play and art as well as fashion.
