Empower Her campaign aims to help refugees dress for success

Simon Fraser University students are calling for donations of cosmetics as part of Empower Her, a new fundraising campaign aimed at helping female Syrian refugees and women in need.

The campaign is being run in partnership with the Immigrant Services Society of B.C. and Dress For Success Vancouver, which aims to help women into the workforce by providing professional attire, career services, and skills development programs.

SFU students hope to deliver 200 care packages to Syrian refugees in Metro Vancouver and will be collecting cosmetics and toiletries until the end of March.

Suggested donations include of unopened/sample shampoos, conditioners, soaps, lotions, face wash, toothpaste, floss, toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, and makeup.

The Empower Her campaign also hoping to raise $1,080 in donations for continuing Dress for Success operations.

Unopened/sample cosmetics and toiletries can be dropped off at the Dress for Success Vancouver office at 685 West Hastings Street or at SFU (Maggie Benston Centre 0300) in Burnaby.
