With a 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues tonight, the Vancouver Canucks have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with eight games remaining.

This shouldn’t come as any surprise of course, the Canucks have been on a collision course with missing the playoffs for some time.

Vancouver has a 27-34-13 record, which puts them in a tie for second-last place in the league with the Edmonton Oilers, just two points ahead of the last place Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Canucks have failed to record three victories in a row all season long while they have lost at least three games in a row on nine occasions this season. They are currently on a seven-game losing streak.

The Canucks will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014, when they were coached by John Tortorella and their GM was Mike Gillis. The team has missed the playoffs four times in the last 11 seasons.

This will be the worst season the Canucks have had since 1998-99, when they finished with a 23-47-12 record and Mark Messier was their captain.
