In news that will surprise no one, a new poll has found British Columbians watch less live TV and stream more from Netflix, Shomi and CraveTV than the rest of Canada.

The nationwide survey by Insights West found less than half of B.C. residents bother with live TV, with 14% preferring to stream their shows instead.

Looking at age groups across the whole of Canada, the survey found people aged 18 to 34 are the least likely to watch TV live, with only a quarter tuning in.

They are also the most likely to stream content to a computer, tablet or cellphone, the poll found, with 31% enjoying mobile media, compared to 14% of those 35 to 54 and 7% of those 55+.

And in a revelation sure to rock us all, the survey found around 90% of Canadians who do have cable TV think they pay too much for it – and don’t even watch many of the channels included.

Insights West say they conducted the online study among a representative sample of 1,049 Canadian adults between March 7 and March 10.
