The night are getting shorter, and the days are getting warmer. That irritating inconvenience known as a West Coast Winter is already on its way out, so hit the town with a few of these awesome events.

Vanessa Carlton

  • What: Singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton hits Imperial tonight. A classically trained ballerina, Carlton turned to music instead. Her unique and emotional brand of poppy music has won her fans the world over, Vancouver included.

Dirty Dancing Tour

  • What: The stage adaptation of the movie that made everyone go “Oh right Patrick Swayze was like a super good dancer.” Watch the story of an aristocratic daughters dance/romance with a rough and tumble maintenance guy, and fall in love all over again.
  • Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre – 650 Hamilton Street, Vancouver

Jokes Please!

  • What: Hosts Andy Kallstrom and Ross Dauk present some of Vancouver’s best comedians in a show that you will either love or you will not love. But you’ll at the very least like it! Unless you’re a jerk.

Aging and Mental Wellness

  • What: A speaker event hosted by the Richmond Public Library and Vancouver Coastal Health on the changes ages brings. They’ll walk you through mood changes and memory, and help you on your way to a happier, healthier life.

Made To Be Ready

  • What: Artist Dana Claxton explores the life of Indigenous Peoples, with a special focus on the Plains First Nations. Art, culture, and life are presented through photographs and videos. It’s an up close look at the world before, and how it survives now.

  • When: Thursday, January 14 to Saturday, March 12; 12 to 5 p.m.
