Team Canada has chosen centre Brayden Point as captain for the World Junior Hockey Championships, which begin on Saturday.

Point, as you might expect, was thrilled with the news.

Point, who is the captain of his junior team in Moose Jaw, has 43 points in 19 WHL games, but hasn’t played a full game since sustaining a shoulder injury in a game on November 17. He had 2 goals and 2 assists in last year’s tournament.

Hockey Canada also announced Victoria Royals defenceman Joe Hicketts and Kingston Frontenacs winger Lawson Crouse as alternate captains.

All three players chosen to wear a letter were members of last year’s gold medal winning team.
