European media are reporting that men with alleged ties with ISIS are making threats against Vancouver, Ottawa and Geneva.

Le Matin is reporting the men shown in pictures with black censorship bars over their eyes are wanted by Swiss police and are in the Geneva area. The four men allegedly talked about the attacks against the Canadian cities in a video obtained by the French publication.

Safety Minister Ralph Goodale has not raised Canada’s security levels as a result of the alleged threats.

“If there is any dimension of this situation that relates to Canada we will obviously take appropriate steps. At this point, there is no new information reported to me that would change the circumstances,” Goodale said in a media scrum in Ottawa.

“If there is something new we would obviously let Canadians know immediately and we will take the appropriate steps.”

A spokesperson with Public Safety Canada sent Vancity Buzz a statement echoing what Goodale told reporters on Parliament Hill.

While we cannot comment more specifically for operational reasons, we can say that the Government of Canada monitors all potential threats and has robust measures in place to address them.  Canada’s security agencies work closely with allies and key partners to continuously reassess their operational needs and respond to the global threat environment.

Canadians can rest assured that when the security and intelligence sector receives credible warnings on a specific threat, they work with the appropriate Government partners to ensure the safety of Canadians.

The Government of Canada remains unwavering in its commitment to protect the safety and security of Canadians. It will continue to take appropriate action to counter terrorist threats to Canada, its citizens and its interests around the world.

The Vancouver Police Department has also responded to the alleged threats, saying there’s no immediate security risk to the people of Vancouver.

The Vancouver police work very closely with other police agencies locally, nationally, and internationally, including the RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams, to ensure the timely sharing of information and intelligence among the law enforcement community.

The safety and security of those who live, work and visit Vancouver is a priority for the VPD. There is currently no increase in threat levels and no known specific threat related to Vancouver.
