Vancouver’s tech baby, Hootsuite, is downsizing and has laid off 20 employees locally in efforts “to create a simpler, more aligned business.”

In an emailed statement, Hootsuite’s Corporate Communications Manager Sandy Pell told Vancity Buzz:

“Hootsuite has completed a global reorganization to create a simpler, more aligned business that is purpose-built to support our over 10m customers, and scale to a multi-billion dollar enterprise. With this reorganization, we have merged some business units and cut others, which unfortunately meant we had to transition around 20 Vancouver employees out of the business. With this organizational change, our recent leadership additions and our continued focus on social innovation, Hootsuite is well positioned for success.”

The company will, however, look to hire over 100 people in 2016 under the new organizational structure, according to Pell, although it’s unsure how many will be located in Vancouver. Hootsuite had 800 employees as of October 2015, according to BCBusiness, up from 600 in July 2014.

Hootsuite recently hired Sujeet Kini as CFO, fuelling rumours of the company going public.
