Planning the perfect holiday party can be stressful, but a little expert advice can go a long way to making it more enjoyable for your guests, and you too.

When planning your look for the holiday season, you should always start with a theme. Pick a fun one that will shape the décor, cocktail menu, food, invites, and, of course, the table setting. For 2015, the top holiday themes all have a classic and glamorous twist – think Hollywood in the 1950s, with plenty of gold, reflective surfaces, candlelight, and crystal.

And nothing says the holidays like Ferrero Rocher, the classic and quintessential chocolate that’s the perfect blend of ingredients, which is destined to create golden moments and lasting memories.

Holiday living room tips from Saskia Thuot

Here are some holiday living room tips from Saskia Thuot, a design expert in Quebec who has been capturing the hearts of Quebecers primarily as host of the show Décore ta vie, one of the province’s most popular design shows celebrating its 15th year on air.

  • Add golden ornaments, white ribbons, and a real Christmas wreath with sparkling lights to embellish windows.
  • Customize your holiday décor by adding two or three sparkling cushions and a golden throw.
  • Don’t forget the kids! An alcohol-free sparkling apple juice served with frozen cranberries in unbreakable glasses will definitely be a hit.
  • Enhance the lighting in your living room by filling a glass bowl with a few white and gold lights.
  • Customizing your guests’ glassware is always a nice touch – write their names with white, gold, and sparkling pens for extra sparkle on the dining table.
  • Hide edible treats around for your guests to find, like candies or Ferrero Rocher – they’ll be delighted by the little surprises!

Holiday table tips from Janette Ewan

Here are some holiday table tips from Janette Ewan, one of Canada’s leading décor and lifestyle experts and co-host of Inside the Box with Ty Pennington.

  • For the Hollywood glam theme: use lots of mirrors and reflective surfaces, like Mercury glass ornaments (glass trees and vases). If you can’t find any, use little gold leaf on silver vases and ornaments or carnation balls for an unexpected twist on holiday florals. Add a glitter butterfly or bird on top for an extra sparkle.
  • Use vintage inspired wallpaper or wrapping paper as a table runner. Add glass ornaments and an ornate candelabra on the table for that extra timeless touch. For an extra twinkle, consider layering mirrors tiles on top of paper. When the candles are lit, there will be twice the glow.
  • The most important tip is to have a low centrepiece – you don’t want your guests dodging their heads around a large item just to have a conversation.
  • Place cards are always a nice touch, and it’s easy to make your own. Write your guests’ names on a festive tag and tie it to an ornament or chocolate, like a Ferrero Rocher. Your guests will know where to sit and can take the ornament home with them as a gift.
  • Plan ahead! The more you do, the more likely you will enjoy your holiday party with ease. If you space the tasks out, you won’t be racing the clock on the day of your party.
