New Year’s Eve is a night to celebrate. However, when you’re a parent, things do change a little. You might not be able to have an all-nighter, but you can still have a fabulous celebration with your kids in tow, you just have to think a little outside the box. So why not invite some of your friends who have kids over and have your own New Year’s Eve soiree?
To help you plan, here are five fun, family-friendly New Year’s Eve party ideas:
1. Dress up party
Have everyone dress up in their fanciest clothing and host a fabulous cocktail party. Have hors d’oeuvres, mocktails, fancy napkins and music. It’ll make everyone feel special to be all dressed up and it’ll make for a New Year’s Eve to remember.
2. Pizza and movie party
Everyone loves pizza and movies so why not combine them for a NYE party? You can order pizzas and pick a bunch of family movies for a marathon. If you want to step up your game, you could even host a pizza-making party. Have the crust, sauce and toppings ready. Then let everyone create an edible masterpiece that they can enjoy while watching their favourite movies.
3. Karaoke and dance party
A New Year’s Eve party is a time when people seem to put aside their inhibitions, so a karaoke and dance party is the perfect way to do just that! Once the initial shyness is over, people will be belting out their favorite tunes while others will be cutting a rug in the living room/make-shift dance floor. It’s a party everyone will be talking about for years to come.
4. Games party
Family games night is always a hit, so how about a New Year’s Eve games marathon? If you’re inviting other families over, have everyone bring a couple of their favorite board games with them.
5. Mock countdown
If you want to include the kids in the countdown but don’t want them to stay up until midnight, try a mock countdown. Get party hats, confetti and noisemakers. Make sure you’ve changed the clock so that it’ll strike midnight whenever you want it to. That way the kids can feel happy that they got to ring in the new year but they still go to bed at a reasonable hour. Then the adults can still enjoy a grown up New Year’s Eve and bring out the bubbly when midnight really strikes.
