The Employees’ Choice Awards are based entirely on employee feedback throughout the past year. Employees complete an anonymous company review to determine job and company satisfaction as well as the best reasons to work at their company and what needs improvement.

“I’ve been working for Earls for 15 years and for me it’s always been this general rule of thumb where if I ever wake up and I’m not learning and I’m not challenged and I’m not excited to go to work then that would be the time to move on,” said regional chef Steve Binning in a video.

“I just haven’t found that yet.”

Employees gave the restaurant an average rating of 4.2 stars out of five, with 88 per cent saying they would recommend it to a friend and a 98 per cent approval rating of the CEO.

Interview experiences were rated as generally positive at 65 per cent and interview difficulty was rated low at 1.6 out of five, earning it an “easy” rating.

The employees who reviewed the restaurant weren’t without their complaints, however. Comments indicated there’s still some improving that needs to be done.

“Be great to see some sort of RRSP or pension assistance planning for management,” reads one comment.

“The hours which I worked were a bit strenuous given that I was going to school at the same time. This isn’t really the fault of Earls but the industry itself,” reads another.

Here are the top ten places to work in Canada according to Glass Door’s list:

  1. Earls Kitchen + Bar

  3. Apple
  4. Salesforce
  5. Ericsson – Worldwide
  6. ATB Financial
