The Canucks have recalled dependable defenceman Alex Biega from the Utica Comets.

The Comets’ captain has has 6 points in 14 games in the AHL and has appeared in one game this year with the Canucks.

It is a bit of a curious decision to give Biega the call, given that right winger Jake Virtanen was injured in last night’s game against the Ducks. It’s doubly curious given that defenceman Andrey Pedan is still up with the team.

Is Chris Tanev injured? He’s already playing with an injured finger, but he’s still their most reliable blueliner.

Vancouver is also without Ben Hutton, who is skating and should return to the lineup soon, and Brandon Sutter, who was injured on November 10th.
