5 things to do in Vancouver today: Friday, December 18

Star Wars is out, and you probably didn’t even get tickets. While you wait for the crowds to die down, don your ugly sweater and grab a friend, it’s time to have some fun.

Here are five events for today, but the Vancouver Events Calendar has more.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

  • What: Have fun wrapped in the hideous warmth of an ugly sweater and support the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. Help them raise money to fulfill a favorite wish for children diagnosed life-threatening illness.
  • Where: Commodore Ballroom – 868 Granville Street, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, December 18; 8 p.m.

Keithmas VI in Rickshaw

  • What: Keith Richards turns 72 today, you can be there to celebrate in the company some of the most incredible bands in Vancouver, playing their collective asses off playing the classic, and imbibing superhuman amounts of Jack Daniels.
  • Where: Rickshaw Theatre – 254 East Hastings Street, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, December 18; 7 p.m.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with Vadim Gluzman

  • What: The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, with one of the world’s greatest violinists, the Vadim Gluzman, is set to perform a timeless classic. Gluzman will play a 1690 ‘ex-Leopold Auer’ Stradivarius violin, created 30 years before the writing of Four Seasons itself.
  • Where: Chan Shun Concert Hall – 6265 Crescent Road, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, December 18; 8 p.m.

Lil Debbie

  • What: Born in Oakland, California, Lil Debbie grew up immersed in the melting pot of Bay Area. Straight-forward and sharp shooting, Debbie’s music resonates with fans worldwide.
  • Where: Fortune Sound Club – 147 East Pender Street, Vancouver
  • When: Friday, December 18; 8:00 p.m.

The Spiritual World of Taiwan

  • What: The culture of Taiwan is expressed through contemporary art, featuring works by seven contemporary Taiwanese artists, visualizing the religious beliefs, myths, and the spiritual world for the modern world.
  • Where: UBC Musem of Anthropology – 6393 North West Marine Drive, Vancouver
  • When: Now to April 3, 2016; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
