Tove Lo bares it all at Vogue Theatre (REVIEW, PHOTOS)

Swedish pop sensation Tove Lo returned to Vancouver last night, playing to a sold-out crowd at the Vogue Theatre. Fans waited hours in the rain to secure a good spot for the 75-minute show, in which the singer left them breathless and literally tit-ilated. But more on that later.

Lo was in town to promote her stunning debut album Queen of the Clouds. Since its release last year, the disc has become a runaway hit and spawned two smash singles – “Habits (Stay High)” her first US top ten hit, and “Talking Body” which has sold more than two million downloads to date.

One pop music critic dubbed Lo “the saddest girl in Sweden,” but the singer was all smiles last night and clearly felt the love in the air. “Vancouver! You had enough of me?” she screamed during opener “War on Drugs” and the hipster crowd answered with a resounding “NO!”

“It’s pretty amazing to be back here and see all of you. It makes a Swede very happy. People say the Swedes and the Canadians are a lot alike. And I like that,” she said to huge cheers. “Alright, let’s get sexy.” And get sexy she did. She posed and purred and for megahit “Talking Body” Lo strutted around the stage in a black leotard-type outfit that I’m pretty sure was in the window of the DARE TO WEAR “clothing” shop a few blocks down from the Vogue Theatre.

The crowd went nuts and Lo couldn’t contain her excitement, or her bare breasts, any longer and pulled her leotard down to let ’em breathe for a second or five. She explained her motives a few songs later, saying “I wanted to make tonight personal, and I showed you my tits. And it doesn’t get more personal than that.”

Lo bared her soul as well and sounded lovely on breakup anthem “Over” a song “about a mistake I made a while back. I do write songs about heartbreak, as you know,” she told us. She writes songs about jailbait, too – she introduced “Like ‘Em Young” saying “this one’s a little politically incorrect. We’ll see for how many more years I can sing this song.” Sample lyrics included “Hey girl, why you judging me/when your guy is turning 53?”

Lo closed the show with breakout song “Habits (Stay High)” and was clearly elated when the entire theatre chimed in on background vocals. “I never thought that I’d be standing here one day, with my name on these glowing lights – that’s cool, huh? Thank you so much for being here with me. It’s changed my life.”
