McArthurGlen Vancouver Airport Outlet Mall has recorded one million visitors during its first three months of operations, making it McArthurGlen Group’s most successful opening to-date.

“We’re thrilled by the overwhelming response we’ve seen from shoppers who have clearly embraced our European day-out shopping concept,” says Robert Thurlow, General Manager of McArthurGlen Vancouver. “We’re focussed on building upon this continued success to create an ever better, shopping experience for both locals and tourists alike.”

This staggering figure includes the 160,000 visitors the mall recorded during its opening weekend from July 9 to 12. During the weekends, stores remain packed with shoppers, and there are even lines out in front of some storefronts.

According to Thurlow, the mall’s original visitation projections called for 600,000 shoppers by this date – the mall’s traffic is approximately 66 per cent higher than projections.

Much of the Vancouver outlet mall’s success could be attributed to its unique location due to its proximity with an urban population, the metropolitan area’s downtown core, and rail rapid transit. All of McArthurGlen’s locations in Europe are located outside of urban areas.

Staff estimate that about 40 per cent of the mall’s traffic is made on the Canada Line, with shoppers boarding and disembarking at Templeton Station.

The outlet mall currently has over 50 stores occupying 156,000 square feet of the 240,000 square feet of space in the mall’s first phase. A number of stores will be added to the mall before the holiday shopping season, including Brooks Brothers, Columbia Sportswear and Zwilling.

The mall’s food eatery options will also be expanding this fall with the opening of Italian restaurant Bibo, Noodlehouse and Ryuu Izakaya.

A second phase adding 140,000 square feet and 50 stores is currently slated to open in 2017.
