UPDATE at 4 p.m. – Highway 1 has reopened in both directions.

Cars are backed up East and Westbound on Highway 1 due to what the Burnaby RCMP are calling a “police incident.” No traffic is getting through in either direction.

The Ministry of Transportation is saying the closures are between Kensington Avenue to after the ramp at Willingdon. More to come…

The Kensington overpass remains open to North and Southbound traffic, according to the RCMP.

Police are keeping mum on the reason for the closure and say it will be an undetermined amount of time before Highway 1 reopens.
