Former Lions kicker Sean Whyte made his fifth field goal of the night in overtime as the Edmonton Eskimos edged out a 26-23 win over the BC Lions on Saturday evening at Commonwealth Stadium.

Adarius Bowman had 11 receptions for 198 yards on the night for the Eskimos, while his quarterback Mike Reilly threw for 332 yards and had 3 interceptions.

For B.C., Jonathon Jennings tossed for 229 yards on the night. Emmanuel Arceneaux had 7 catches for 67 yards, which may not seem like a lot, but is significant considering his recent struggles.

Head Coach Jeff Tedford continues to puzzle many concerning his deployment of Andrew Harris. Harris was limited to only 6 carries, accounting for just 2 yards (!) on the ground in the game.

Given the man has never played for another team in his six-year-career, you can make the case Harris represents the most compelling test for Buono’s history of managerial acumen. Harris, who’s set to become a free agent at the end of this season, turns 29 in April. It will be very interesting to see if Buono, who has taken the highroad when faced with signing a veteran player who may be approaching his best-before date, will choose to pay Harris the money he so rightly deserves.

Although the Lions blew a late lead once more, an overtime loss to one of the league’s top teams on the road is nothing to be ashamed of, and B.C. had plenty of chances to win this outright. That’s a good sign for them and an indication that their playoff hopes are not completely depleted whatsoever, considering how despicable their competition for the third final playoff spot in the West (Winnipeg and Montreal), have looked.

The Lions (5-10) will look to get back on track against the East Divison leading Hamilton Tiger-Cats (10-5) at BC Place next Friday.
