Deep South, Vancouver’s newest BBQ joint is now open and dishing up a range of lip-smacking, authentic Southern-inspired eats.
Located at 420 West Pender Street, the eatery takes the place of the The Ascot Lounge and houses a total of 60 seats indoors, as well as private back patio, which will open mid-November. Warmed by outdoor heaters, the patio will feature a very sweet-looking seating area with strung up lights.
Currently the restaurant is showcasing a concise menu (full menu to come soon), which owner Brinson Silver says is due to the fact that the team at Deep South are “doing things right, slowly,” and taking their time to settle into their new space and kitchen.
Chef Marvin “Boonie” Sanders, who has 23 years of barbecuing experience, helms the kitchen at Deep South, and prepares a range of comforting plates like pulled pork sliders, brisket sandwiches, tender meaty ribs, and juicy chicken wings, in addition to an array of barbecue side-staples and toppings, like mac and cheese, cornbread and house-made sauces.
Patrons who frequent Deep South can take comfort in knowing that all of the meats offered are slow-cooked in-house for eight hours, in a Competition Smoker.
Silver, who began his career as a server, line cook and manager in Georgia and Tennessee, also plays the part of general manager at Deep South, and from time-to-time steps into the kitchen to lend and hand. A recent Canadian resident, Silver made the move to Vancouver last year, and soon after purchased Gastown’s Bismarck Bar, with his cousin.
Not only will patrons who frequent Deep South savour the flavours of the South but they will also enjoy a variety of hand-crafted cocktails.
