Vancouver’s AnnaLena has been named one of the Best New Restaurants in Canada, ranking sixth on a list of 10 standout spots across the country.
The honour comes from enRoute Magazine, who publish the list annually. This year’s panel of food biz luminaries include a roster of journalists, TV personalities, and other industry pros from across the country.
Kitsilano’s AnnaLena was among the 32 finalists announced this summer, as well as it was one of four Vancouver restaurants to be up for the award, joined by Bauhaus, Sai Woo, and Grapes & Soda. The restaurant comes from the creative culinary mind of Michael Robbins, a former Top Chef Canada chef-testant who left The Oakwood to get cooking in his own space, which he named for his two grandmothers.
While enRoute’s nod to AnnaLena kids that the visually exciting food coming out of the kitchen is “suspiciously pretty,” they also concede the playful fare is “much more than just Instagram eye candy.”
In addition to coming in sixth on the critics’ list, AnnaLena was also voted the People’s Choice for Best New Restaurant in Canada of 2015.
“We are so grateful to be a small part of an amazing restaurant scene in both Vancouver and Canada,” said Robbins in an e-mailed statement. “The city has been so supportive of us from day one, and they continue to help us shine. We are very humbled by this honour.”
AnnaLena is the only Vancouver restaurant to made the final ten. Topping the list is Calgary’s Pigeonhole.
