The first autumn weekend over the South Coast of B.C. will be delightfully sunny and these conditions could continue well into the following week.

According to Environment Canada’s forecasters, a strong high pressure system currently over the U.S. West Coast will move north and shift the jet stream away from the South Coast. It will result in an extended period of clear skies and sunny weather.

In Metro Vancouver, the skies will clear by late Friday morning and temperatures could reach a high of 17°C by the water, with warmer temperatures inland. As the week progresses, it could become even warmer with a high of 19°C by the water.

Over in Abbotsford and Squamish, sunny conditions are also expected and this could be paired with warm temperatures as high as 22°C.

Similar temperatures will also persist for Whistler during the weekend, after a rain storm passes through the area Thursday evening and Friday morning. The storm system could bring 25 mm of rainfall overnight.

This forecast for clear skies comes ahead of Sunday evening’s supermoon and total lunar eclipse.
